The volume and variety of trees used in the Forest of Thanks, created by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tcv.org.uk\/\">The Conservation Volunteers<\/a> and partners can be seen here:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-53796 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/greenblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Miyawaki-planting-infographic-3-409x1024-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"409\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/greenblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Miyawaki-planting-infographic-3-409x1024-1.png 409w, https:\/\/greenblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Miyawaki-planting-infographic-3-409x1024-1-120x300.png 120w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 409px) 100vw, 409px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After four years, a mini urban forest using the Miyawaki method can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Absorb 24,000 kg of carbon: up to 30 times better absorption compared to other tree-planting schemes<\/li>\n<li>Create a huge increase in biodiversity<\/li>\n<li>Process 1,500,000 litres of rain<\/li>\n<li>Improve air quality by reducing polluting floating particulates by up to 10%<\/li>\n<li>Be up to 30 times better noise reduction compared to other tree-planting schemes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By using this method, we have more trees, reduce the effects of climate change, slow the decline in biodiversity, and combat species loss. Sounds good?<\/p>\n<p><strong>And there\u2019s more\u2026 for people<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>People who live close to green spaces are more likely to have improved <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/news\/2019-07-urban-trees-mental-health.html\">mental and physical health.<\/a> Access to green spaces can decrease a person\u2019s blood pressure and stress levels, leading to an overall increase of wellbeing in urban communities.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, there is an opportunity to engage the local community in planting trees and the ongoing care and monitoring of them.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-51078 size-medium_large\" src=\"https:\/\/greenblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Parsloes-Park-9-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/greenblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Parsloes-Park-9-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/greenblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Parsloes-Park-9-600x800.jpg 600w, https:\/\/greenblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Parsloes-Park-9-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/greenblue.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Parsloes-Park-9.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tcv.org.uk\/scotland\/discover\/citizen-science\/\">Citizen Science<\/a> principles, anyone can become a scientist and collect data on the activity beneath their feet. These projects truly leave a legacy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>More trees, multiple benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xpX0HL6v7SE\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The Conservation Volunteers is pioneering the Miyawaki approach to forest planting with Barking &amp; Dagenham Council and thanks to 32,000 trees being donated to the project by Natwest Group. The Parsloes Park \u2013 Forest of Thanks and Remembrance (also involving Kings College London, Thames Chase Community Forest, SUGI and Wild Urban Spaces) aims to combine remembrance with an <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TCVtweets\/status\/1334457976946647045\">appreciation for all the hard work frontline workers have delivered<\/a> and will be the largest Miyawaki project to date in all of Europe.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The Conservation Volunteers is a UK charity that connects people and green spaces, through activities such as tree planting, to tackle the climate and ecological emergency and provide lasting outcomes for people, communities and nature.
