Greenwich Millennium Village

Greenwich Millennium Village

Greenwich Millennium Village is a mixed-tenure modern development, located on the Peninsula in Greenwich, in South-East London.

Situated on the banks of the river Thames, the site is adjacent to the Greenwich Peninsula Ecological Park, a haven for many different species of plants, birds, and wildlife. A key consideration for the new site, with meticulous planning to reflect this environmental importance.

Formerly a brownfield site of East Greenwich Gas Works, The overall masterplan as instructed by Greenwich Millennium Village Ltd (GMV), would see the development of 3000 properties, a unique village regeneration designed and initiated by architects Ralph Erskine and EPR Architects Ltd.

Implementation saw a collaboration between Taylor Wimpey and Countryside properties who aimed to cut energy usage by 80% by use of low-energy building techniques and renewable technologies.

The site was divided into many different phases and by 2010 over 1000 properties were completed. A consortium, led by Jestico Whiles in partnership with Peter Barber Architects and Studio 54 Architecture, developed designs true to the spirit and intentions of Erskine’s vision.

GreenBlue Urban was thrilled to support the Royal Borough of Greenwich Landscape Architects Turkington Martin alongside various Landscape Contractors, across the many different phases over many years, meeting their urban tree planting requirements.

Supporting Togher Construction back in 2018 with load-bearing StrataCell, Guying, Irrigation, Root Management and soil for 27 trees, along with a further phase in 2019 for an additional 22 trees.

Keyline for their work on Phase 4, using Root Space Gen 2, Arborvents, Root Directors, Guying and above-ground pre-cast Brittany bronze pre-cast grilles.   Also M-Squared for their involvement in using the UK’s leading soil cell – RootSpace, will have successfully planted trees for many years to come.
