Twas the week before Christmas

With reluctance in mind
\nBut a prevailing economic thought
\nThe main street BIA
\nListened to what the urban forester taught<\/p>\n
Since it\u2019s insisted that street trees
\nBe a part of the focal spot
\nWe\u2019ll hire a landscape contractor
\nAnd give them a little plot<\/p>\n
We\u2019ve done this before
\nAnother council member recalled
\nAnd the street looked pretty good
\nOnce the trees were installed<\/p>\n
A small hole in the sidewalk
\nIs all the trees will need
\nThe rest of the councilors
\nImmediately agreed<\/p>\n
But those four-by-four tree pits
\nAre just not enough
\nThe landscape architect interjected
\nHoping he\u2019d call their bluff<\/p>\n
Those trees will never establish
\nIn conditions like that
\nYou need to plan a better
\nUrban tree pit format<\/p>\n
Don\u2019t worry, the councilor opposed
\nThis scheme will work fine
\nAnd besides, they\u2019re not worth it
\nTrees are just a sideline<\/p>\n
But healthy trees offer big benefits
\nThe landscape architect negated

\nIf you want trees to be healthy
\nAnd only that will help these
\nStorekeepers to become wealthy<\/p>\n
Then without further warning
\nThe civil engineer arrived
\nOn no, thought the landscape architect
\nNow these trees will be totally deprived<\/p>\n
I agree with the contractor
\nThe engineer immediately declared
\nRoots wreck utilities and sidewalks
\nAnd I don\u2019t want the trees spared<\/p>\n
But I know there\u2019s a way
\nTo have trees in hardscape
