In\u00a0our\u00a0previous\u00a0blog\u00a0– \u201c<\/span>Will we see tree-lined streets on all new developments?<\/a>\u201d –<\/span><\/b>\u00a0we highlighted the recent\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Planning for Future <\/span><\/b>White paper \u2013 stating that all new streets should be tree-lined and all new homes to be carbon neutral by 2050.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Although great news, like others within the industry,\u00a0we have\u00a0challenged\u00a0these aspirations, asking\u00a0such questions as what defines a tree-lined street? How will they be planted? Hardscape or soft verge?\u00a0at what size will they be planted? To what size will they grow and therefore\u00a0be\u00a0maintained?\u00a0And what will the commuted sums be to enable local authority\u00a0adoption?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

GreenBlue\u00a0Urban<\/strong>\u00a0fully support the need for quality housing\u00a0in quality surroundings,\u00a0that is accessible for all.\u00a0\u00a0However,\u00a0many\u00a0details still\u00a0require clarification\u00a0to enable\u00a0developers to plan\u00a0effectively\u00a0for\u00a0sustainable\u00a0green infrastructure from the outset.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A\u00a0<\/span>place is for living<\/span><\/b> and it\u2019s a joy to work with some developers\u00a0whose ethos\u00a0incorporates\u00a0this \u2013 taking pride in providing sustainable developments with health and well-being at the forefront of their design.\u00a0\u00a0This can be done by providing well-designed open green spaces that bring communities together in a safe and sociable way;\u00a0that also encourages\u00a0walking and cycling\u00a0and\u00a0green corridors integrating nature and enhancing the landscape.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is the most ambitious \u201cgreen\u201d investment we have ever seen, with pledges to make our nation cleaner, greener and more beautiful.\u00a0\u00a0We will all be watching the COP 26 Climate Change<\/strong><\/a> Conference in November with interest as the UK takes the lead on its promise to plant 30,000 hectares of trees as part of the England Tree Strategy<\/a>,<\/strong> along with enhanced biodiversity as part of the Nature Strategy.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Is\u00a0Biodiversity\u00a0increasing?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Many developers are now employing dedicated specialists to handle their Biodiversity strategy, as highlighted in our recent webinar.<\/strong><\/a> This is, no doubt, to tackle the latest Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) approach; a development that aims to leave the natural environment in a\u00a0<\/span>measurably<\/span><\/i>\u00a0better state of biodiversity than\u00a0it was before.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>GreenBlue Urban are delighted to see an increase in urban tree planting using the renowned ArborSystem<\/strong><\/a>, and the phenomenal interest expressed in the recently launched HydroPlanter<\/strong><\/a> – enabling cost-effective rain gardens to support SuDS across developments.\u00a0 However not all developers are yet taking the same approach, so will we start to see fewer properties vs more space?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
