A Guide to the Carbon Storage Potential of Tree Species
Date: Wednesday 17th February 2021
Time: 10:00AM
Duration: 60 Minutes
With: Kenton Rogers, Chartered Forester, Treeconomics & Keith Sacre, Sales Director, Barcham Trees
Learning outcome
Realising and articulating the different potential of individual tree species to store carbon over their lifetime, literally from cradle to grave.
Overview of session
Keith Sacre will explain why Barcham Trees invested in the creation of tree tags in collaboration with Treeconomics, what the nursery hopes the tags will achieve, and how the information will be of benefit to customers. Kenton Rogers will outline the role played by Treeconomics in producing and developing the trees tags, explain the wider implications and next steps.
Tree Population Resilience Through Diversity
Date: 19th June 2020
Time: 10:00AM BST
Duration: 30 Minutes
The webinar will look at the question of tree population resilience through species diversity. The session will review the subject looking at where we are now, diversity of tree populations, the theories underpinning diversity targets, and question how achievable such targets are. The advantages and disadvantages of diversity targets will be covered as will be the need for an evidence-based understanding of the current tree population as a baseline for diversity initiatives.

Time: 10:00AM BST
Duration: 30 Minutes
Investing in Healthy Trees
Date: Friday 04th September 2020
Time: 10:00AM BST
Duration: 30 Minutes
With: Kenton Rogers
What is the cost of not investing in healthy trees? – Why are we planting trees which are never given the opportunity to reach their full growth potential and deliver maximum benefits? We are routinely failing to plant and maintain trees effectively, yet they are critical infrastructure in our urban areas, our frontline defence against climate change.
In this Friday focus, Kenton will be exploring not only why we should be investing more in young tree planting and establishment, which is the easy bit, but why are trees so underfunded and what we might be able to do about it.
How can we think about tree planting more strategically? Only then can we start to work together collectively to realise sustainable treescapes that will actually benefit future generations and communities.
Practical Retrofit of SUDS in High Density Residential Areas
Date: Friday 18th September 2020
Time: 14:00 BST
Duration: 30 Minutes
With: Ian Titherington
In this webinar we will hear from Ian Titherington, Lead Drainage Officer at Cardiff Council with regards to the pioneering, award winning retrofit SUDS scheme, Greener Grangetown. Ian’s ambition for this scheme was to use natural infrastructure to manage surface water and go beyond the basic rain garden approach. Listen in to understand the extensive consultations that were met during the planning stage through to installation with the highways teams, the local community, politicians and stakeholders.
This is also an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the SABS movement in Wales. Whether you are a developer, an architect or an individual seeking planning permission for a development, this webinar will determine the steps that need to be established to enforce SABS into your schemes.
All Our Trees – Investment Strategies for Nature-based Solutions
Date: Friday 2nd October 2020
Time: 14:00 BST
Duration: 30 Minutes
With: Bryan Cosgrove, City of Trees
City of Trees detail their latest campaign “All Our Trees” the tree and woodland strategy for Greater Manchester. A recently published guide to improve the way in which we plant and manage our trees for generations to come.
They will discuss key collaborations in securing investment in order to deliver their goal of planting 3 million trees for every person across Greater Manchester in order to secure a much greener, more resilient and pleasant environment that everyone can enjoy.
Tips for Hydraulic design of Treepits and other complex SuDS
Date: Friday 16th October 2020
Time: 10:00AM BST
Duration: 30 Minutes
With: Jessica Jefferys, Product Manager for Drainage Design at Innovyze
With Treepits and other more complex SuDS now being recognised for the multiple benefits they can deliver to a sustainable surface water management plan they must be included as part of a hydraulic design. Representing these structures accurately as part of a wider drainage network can further help to demonstrate the reduced storage volumes and slowing of the flow that help to mimic natural processes.
Talking specifically to the new GreenBlue Urban guidance on representing the GBU HydroPlanter and ArborFlow Treepit in MicroDrainage, Jessica will also cover some more general design tips for complex SuDS and additional ways in which software can help demonstrate compliance.
Root Physiology & Urban Tree Planting
Date: Friday 20th November 2020
Time: 10:00AM
Duration: 30 Minutes
With: Derek Eames, Arboriculture and Urban Forestry Consultant, IROS Arb
The relationship between roots, soil & the establishment of long-term canopy cover in our towns and cities is a complex one. In this webinar GreenBlue Urban will present alongside Arboriculturalist and Urban Forestry Consultant Derek Eames, with more than 20 years experience in the industry, on how to understand the vital functions of root systems in relation to soils so as to affect
design decisions when creating green infrastructure particularly in the hard landscape.
Talking specifically on the complexities of root physiology, root water pathways, soil compaction and how we can achieve long term trees.
