Celebrating Excellence in Landscape Innovation: Willerby Landscapes Shines at BALI Awards

GreenBlue Urban had the pleasure of attending the recent BALI Awards at Grosvenor House, a night dedicated to recognising outstanding achievements in landscape design, construction, and maintenance. The spotlight of the evening was undoubtedly on Willerby Landscapes, whose remarkable success in the industry was honoured with the Grand Award.

Congratulations to Willerby Landscapes on winning the Grand Award.

Setting a new standard in the 47-year history of the National Landscape Awards, Willerby Landscapes secured their seventh Grand Award for the Battersea Power Station Phase II Roof Garden. This Edenbridge-based company has consistently pushed boundaries, showcasing an unparalleled commitment to excellence.

The National Landscape Awards, considered the largest in Europe, welcomed entries from all members of the British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI). The Grand Award, the pinnacle of recognition, is bestowed upon the entry deemed the best among the 69 National Awards presented earlier in the year.

This year’s awards were the result of rigorous judging conducted over the summer, with 69 National Landscape Awards given to 50 BALI members in September. The prestigious Grosvenor House ceremony saw 24 Principal Awards, four Special Awards, and the coveted Grand Award announced live on stage.

Willerby Landscapes’ triumph in the Battersea Power Station Phase II Roof Garden project played a pivotal role in the site’s regeneration. This 43-acre, Grade II* listed area is undergoing a transformative mixed-use development, featuring residential spaces, bars, restaurants, offices, shops, and entertainment spaces. The collaborative efforts of LDA Design and Andy Sturgeon Design in conceptualisation, coupled with Willerby Landscapes’ impeccable execution, have left an indelible mark on the landscape.

Chair of the judging panel, John Melmoe, applauded every facet of the Battersea Power Station project, emphasising its exemplary planning, design, site preparation, health and safety measures, logistics, craftsmanship, horticultural expertise, and detailing. The project has undoubtedly set a benchmark for excellence in the industry.

Wayne Grills, Chief Executive of the British Association of Landscape Industries, highlighted the significance of these awards, emphasising the personal scrutiny each project undergoes before being debated by the Judging Panel.

The winners truly represent the pinnacle of excellence in the industry.
