The borough of Lewisham has undertaken minor boundary changes since its creation with one of its most significant amendments occurring in 1996, which saw the former area of the Royal Docks in Deptford transform into what we know it as today: the London Borough of Greenwich. With a population of 275,885 residents, Lewisham is perfect for City commuters with its direct DLR train links and is famously home to Millwall Football Club.

The Timberyard Deptford is the latest stunning masterplan scheme based in South London, Lewisham, constructing new local amenities and over 1000 new homes. At the heart of the scheme, the overall initiative was to create new public spaces for all to enjoy, as well as connect existing links throughout the area to allow a sense of placemaking.

Working with Vogt Landscape Architects, the project’s aim is to achieve a sustainable outcome by placing nature at the forefront of its design, utilising rainwater and providing shade for our streets. In fact, 80% of the building roofs on this scheme have been allocated to both green and brown roofs, helping to increase biodiversity in the surrounding area.

In 2019, GreenBlue Urban was thrilled to supply the entire ArborSystem tree pit package for the planting of 8 trees along Grove Street. This included the use of StrataCell 60 soil cells to provide a continuous trench of uncompacted soil crucial to the long term success of the scheme. Installed by Scotscape, planting also included the use of RootRain irrigation vents for proactive irrigation directly to the rootball and custom Arboresin pre-case Brittney Bronze tree grilles to create a striking finish above ground.
