Initially published in 2019, the GreenBlue Urban Tree Species Soil Volume Guide was a brave attempt to give specifiers a more accurate estimate of required soil volumes by species. As was noted when this was launched, it can only ever be a guide, but quickly gained acceptance across the industry as the best recommendation available, and has been used widely by specifiers across the world.
This third edition of the highly popular Soil Volume Guide for Tree Species has been prepared in response to continued advances in research, industry practice, and field experience. As our understanding of tree rooting requirements has grown, we are now able to provide even more accurate soil volume calculations to support healthy, mature canopies. This edition also addresses minor inconsistencies identified in earlier versions and further refines species selection, ensuring the guide remains a reliable and up-to-date resource for practitioners.
