Initially published in 2019, the GreenBlue Urban Tree Species Soil Volume Guide was a brave attempt to give specifiers a more accurate estimate of required soil volumes by species. As was noted when this was launched, it can only ever be a guide, but quickly gained acceptance across the industry as the best recommendation available, and has been used widely by specifiers across the world.
This second version of the highly popular Soil Volume Guide for Tree Species became desirable for a number of reasons. Primarily, as research and industry knowledge has increased, our understanding of tree rooting requirements has enabled us to more accurately calculate volumes needed to support mature canopies, and we are pleased to offer these revised volumes. In addition to this, there were some anomalies that crept into the first version, which have been rectified in this one, and species selection has been refined.
