Ashford Borough Council has invested time in Victoria Park, a beloved green space in our community. Thanks to a £ 5.1 million restoration and protection project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Victoria Park has undergone a remarkable transformation.
This ambitious initiative has revitalised the park’s heritage and provided valuable training and educational opportunities. The project, which was carried out in a live environment with careful phasing, has turned Victoria Park into a model of historical preservation and modern innovation.
The new flagship playground is at the heart of the renovation. It is designed to cater to children of all ages and abilities. The playground features new access paths, a running track, and natural play elements, providing a safe and stimulating environment for children to explore and enjoy. The inclusive design ensures that every child can partake in the fun regardless of their ability.

“We have been collaborating with so many people on this scheme, and it was amazing to see such a big turn-out from the local community enjoying and celebrating Ashford's biggest urban park.”
James Penney, Allen Scott Ltd
A significant component of the project was the long-term tree-planting initiative. This effort enhances the park’s greenery and biodiversity, ensuring Victoria Park remains a verdant sanctuary for years. The landscape designs, crafted by Allen Scott Ltd., seamlessly integrate modern amenities with the park’s historic elements. Their visionary approach has created a harmonious and functional outdoor space that serves the community’s needs.

The newly planted trees in the Rootspace G2 600 system outside Harpers Café shade the seated area, offering parents a comfortable place to relax while their children play.
The thoughtful design makes this scheme a flagship for creating a family-friendly environment. Installed by Blakedown Landscapes, these trees feature Castle tree grilles, ArborVent 150 units allowing aeration through the tree pit and Root Directors to encourage downward root growth, preventing pavement upheaval and trip hazards.
The success of Victoria Park’s restoration is a testament to the power of community collaboration and strategic planning. As the park thrives, it stands as an example of how historical perseveration and modern innovation coexist. The children enjoying the space prove how successful this scheme has been.
If you are in the Kent area, we invite you to explore the revitalised park and experience firsthand the incredible transformation made possible by everyone involved.
