In 2015 Christiansfeld was designated as world cultural heritage by UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).

In 2015 Christiansfeld was designated as world cultural heritage by UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). Christiansfeld is considered the most beautifully preserved of the old Moravian towns in Europe, because the original city is so well preserved. The buildings stand today as when the city was founded in 1773.

However, in 2013, a large restoration project for the city’s trees was started. The historic linden trees from the 1700s was affected by rotting and needed to be replaced. 14 new linden trees at Museum Street and a further 52 trees on Nørregade, which is an extension of Museum Street, were planted as part of a master plan for Christiansfeld to restore the old city center while also leading it into the modern age. Building renovation and new road surfaces were also part of the plan. Another 74 trees were planted on Lindegade meaning a total of 140 trees – all planted in StrataCells supplied by GreenBlue’s partner company Milford.

The project has been a careful restoration of the square’s simple expression on the basis of a replacement of all trees in the original design. Of other important measures include clarification of edges and terrain, cleanup in previous signs and fixtures, a particular care in the selection of gravel and edges and on the whole respectful solutions that meet contemporary possibilities and requirements for care of a gated community.
