20 Fenchurch Street, based in the historical district in the heart of London’s City Centre stands a hidden gem and unique public space, offering 360 degree views across the skyline of London. This famous landmark is nicknamed the ‘Walkie-Talkie’ building due to its distinctive curved shape. Designed by architect Rafael Viñoly, a New-York based Uruguayan architect at a cost of £200 million the buildings idea was to encompass a smaller base than the top – It’s floorplates get larger as you climb up through the building with the top floor ‘overhanging’ by 13m.
Joint developers, Canary Wharf Group and Land Securities set out to ensure the building would be sustainable and have a multitude of innovative measures throughout the design, construction and operational phases.
The London landmark features a large viewing deck and the world famous ‘Sky Garden’ that came to fruition in 2015 by Canary Wharf Contractors. Amongst the ferns and succulents from the Mediterranean and South Africa installed by the horticulturist specialists Ideverde UK, the location also offers fantastic amenities such as an outdoor observation deck and restaurant.
