In response to these challenges, a comprehensive regeneration project was initiated, driven by key stakeholders including Project Taunton, Network Rail, Taunton Deane Borough Council, Somerset County Council, and First Great Western. The master planning for this ambitious project was entrusted to LHC architecture and Buro Happold, with a strong focus on consultation with various stakeholders.

The Gateways plans (station forecourts) provided an element of high-quality public realm which incorporated shared space with quality paving, seating and enhanced signage, along with extensive landscaping efforts to beautify the forecourt area, making it more visually appealing and functional.

GreenBlue Urban were pleased to support with urban tree planting: Five urban trees were strategically planted within the forecourt area, using the RootSpace load-bearing soil support systems, to avoid compaction in a heavily trafficked environment, supporting soil and tree health with aeration using GreenBlues’ renowned Arborvents, stability for the trees below ground using ArborGuy anchoring, and above ground with Zeta Grilles, a unique tree grille that boasts a completely invisible structure allowing interruption-free paving right up to the tree pit.
