Abraham Moss Leisure Centre

Abraham Moss Library & Leisure Centre has reopened its doors after a multi-million-pound investment, unveiling a significant transformation. This long-anticipated revamp has turned the centre into a bustling community hub, providing residents access to essential, state-of-the-art services in the heart of Crumpsall.

The redesigned Abraham Moss Leisure Centre now boasts an array of impressive features promoting health and wellbeing, such as a six-lane swimming pool, two squash courts, indoor cricket facilities, health and fitness suites, and more.

In conjunction with the internal renovations, Ellis Williams Architects paid significant attention to the surrounding landscape. Four trees were strategically planted at the front entrance, creating a welcoming and green ambience as visitors arrived, and an additional four trees were planted by the car park, reinforcing the centre’s commitment to sustainability and beautification.

“The reopening of Abraham Moss Library and Leisure Centre marks the completion of a landmark project. Residents in the Crumpsall area and beyond will now be able to benefit from a new, improved, and modernised library and state-of-the-art leisure facilities in the heart of their communities."

These connected tree pits below ground were ordered by the main contractors – Laing O’Rourke Services Ltd, and installed by the Landscape Contractors, Keyline.

Constructed from GreenBlue Urban’s Rootspace G2 600, a robust system that provides structural support and promotes healthy root growth. Further below-ground products used: Arborguy strapped dead man anchors were implemented to ensure stability for these young trees in all weather conditions, with Root Directors enforcing the roots to grow downwards into the system, preventing pavement upheave at the entrance of the building and avoiding trip hazards.

Above-ground Arboresin Precast Grilles were installed to protect the tree pits while blending seamlessly with the overall design. These tree pits also duplicate as SuDS solutions, with the linear drain that snakes as a grid system blending in with the overall paving design.
